A new company, Southeast Regional Media Group, will launch later this year combining the current NOLA Media Group and Alabama Media Group. NOLA Media Group includes NOLA.com and The Times-Picayune, while Alabama Media Group includes AL.com and GulfLive.com, plus The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times, The Press-Register (Mobile) and The Mississippi Press.
Ricky Mathews, current president of NOLA Media Group, will continue in that role and also assume the same role with the new company. Tom Bates, current president of Alabama Media Group, will continue to be based in Birmingham working closely with Mathews.
David Francis, currently executive vice president at NOLA Media Group, will also assume the role of publisher in New Orleans.
Jim Amoss, VP of content for the NOLA Media Group, and Michelle Holmes, VP of content for Alabama Media Group will continue in those roles. Their newsrooms will share best practices and work together on occasional enterprise projects, but will continue to operate independently from each other.
Other executives joining the effort are Natalie Pruitt, vice president of sales for Alabama Media Group and Reggie Marable, executive VP of sales for NOLA Media Group.
“Our plan is to work together to find operational efficiencies while also investing in growth opportunities,” said Bates. “There are no plans to change the printing or delivery schedules of any of our newspapers in New Orleans, Alabama or Mississippi.”
